Speech-Language Pathology Intern

Position Summary:

Under a supervising Speech-Language Pathologist, the speech language pathology intern will work hands-on in our inclusion classroom. Students range from grade K-6 and have a variety of needs and abilities. The intern will develop and implement client treatment plans, track objective goals and progress notes, and gain exposure to an interdisciplinary team approach towards rehabilitation.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Evaluate levels of speech or language difficulty for children ages 5-16
  2. Determine the extent of communication difficulties via appropriate assessments
  3. Develop appropriate curriculum and intervention stategies
  4. Create and carry out an individualized treatment plan
  5. Teach students how to expand and improve their overall communication
  6. Apply  total communication approach including sign language, visual schedules and cards, assistive technology and voice output devices, PROMPT strategies, and use of alphanumeric boards
  7. Work with patients to develop and strengthen the muscles used in oral motor movement
  8. Propose and track individual student goals
  9. Collaborate with a transdiciplinary team of professionals
  10. Write progress notes and attend team meetings

Skills & Qualifications:

  1. Currently enrolled in a Masters program or higher for Speech Language Pathology or related field
  2. Strong written and verbal communication skills
  3. Strong interpersonal skills
  4. Ability and willingness to learn new skills
  5. Exceptional time management skills
  6. Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team and serve as a team member
  7. Ability to lift, maneuver and carry up to 30lbs.
  8. Knowledgeable of HIPAA Privacy Rules
